The prestigious financial media Financial Times has listed some 400 European companies that have reduced the climate emissions from their own production most in relation to net sales between 2015 and 2020.
HKScan has reduced climate emissions from its own production by some 60 per cent from 2019 to 2021, for example by switching to carbon-neutral electricity. All companies on the list of 400 climate leaders have significantly reduced emissions from their own production. The calculation of emission reductions takes into account the direct and indirect climate emissions of the companies’ own production.
HKScan is creating the future of responsible food production in its home markets in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and the Baltics. We do climate work throughout the food chain, from farms to consumers, together with our partners. The goal of our Zero Carbon climate plan is a carbon-neutral food chain by the end of 2040 and carbon neutrality of our own production by the end of 2025. We are also committed to setting science-based climate targets under the Science Based Targets initiative.
Over the past few years, we have taken hundreds of climate actions on farms, in logistics and in our own production. Together with our contract farmers and other partners, we are exploring and testing new ways to reduce the climate impact of the food chain on 80 pilot farms. We scale up best practices, for example to promote carbon sequestration, to our contract farmers in all our home markets.
20 companies from Finland, 23 from Sweden and 8 from Denmark were included in the Financial Times Climate Leader list.
