We produce food from domestically sourced meat, and purchase almost all of it directly from our contract producers. Our goal is to develop the food chain from farms to consumers while also taking environmental aspects into account. We develop our own operations and those of our contract producers in line with the climate and environmental targets of our responsibility programme.
Our environmental work is guided by reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
reducing waste and improving the recyclability of packaging, protecting biodiversity as well as reducing the water footprint of the supply chain.
HKFoods is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from a 2022 base year, in line with the short-term targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its own operations and value chain. SBTi approved these science-based short-term targets in 2023. The emissions reduction level of the SBTi target is aligned with the calculated pathway corresponding to the 1.5°C ambition of the Paris Agreement and the SBTi Net-Zero Standard. However, HKFoods has not yet set a net-zero target in accordance with the requirements of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
We aim to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by improving energy efficiency in our production, promoting sustainable land use on farms, and cooperating with contract producers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Approximately one percent of our total emissions come from our own operations, while 99 percent originate from other parts of the food chain. HKFoods therefore plays an important role in reducing emissions from meat production, as it supports farms producing meat raw materials in developing their operations and lowering their emissions by strengthening climate expertise in its primary production.
