The aim of the competition, which was held for the 26th time this year, is to value and support product development in Estonian food companies.

"Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the creation and success of the product. This is a great recognition for the entire company, shows the strong level of our product development and proves that we continue to be the driving force of innovation in the meat industries,” said Anne Mere, EVP Business Unit Baltics.

This year, 21 products competed in the Best Meat Product category, and the best one, Tallegg’s Half chicken with herb butter in a baking bag, caught the eye of the jury for being an innovative raw material for oven-baked chicken - half a chicken cooks through faster, is suitable for a smaller family and ensures an even flavouring.

" The product is already seasoned and packed in a convenient baking bag, so that every home chef can make it. The result is tasty, juicy meat, which is sure to appeal to both older and younger members of the family," commented Sirje Potisepp, the head of the Estonian Food Industry Association.

The products are evaluated by a commission made up of nutritionists, commercial chain purchasing managers, food journalists and others involved in the food industry. For products, the commission assesses their taste, smell and consistency, appearance, as well as their wholesomeness, packaging, novelty and sales success. A total of 167 Estonian food products and beverages participate in the Estonian Best Food competition this year.
